The Hereford & District
Diabetes Support Group exists to
provide support and information on all aspects of living with diabetes. The Group provides the
opportunity for diabetics to meet each other and health professionals, to
discuss matters which concern us all. They arrange speakers on subjects of
interest to diabetics and produce a quarterly newsletter. They produce Patient
Information Packs for newly diagnosed diabetics which contain information on
most aspects of living with diabetes, with useful telephone numbers so that when
needed, there is always someone to turn to. These are available free of
charge from General Practitioners. They also provide when
required, holidays for children with diabetes, equipment for hospitals when
funding is not available from the N.H.S., and would consider financial aid for
anyone with diabetes who are disadvantaged. Any surplus monies are put into a
fund to help finance the Diabetes Resource Centre promised for the new Hereford
Hospital. The Group are also active
in bringing to the attention of the relevant authorities, where diabetes care is
inadequate or discriminatory and applying pressure for change. Fund raising events this year:
The presentation of a cheque for £4,350 took place on 21 December 2001. |
